Katrina Weschler holds a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Duke University and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Arts Leadership and Cultural Management from the LEAP Institute for the Arts at CSU. Outside of school she works at the Lincoln Center and Washington’s, two of Fort Collins’ performing arts venues. She also interns with the Street Dog Coalition, a nonprofit that administers free veterinary care to pets of the homeless. Prior to moving to Fort Collins, she was the Associate Director of Development at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), an arts conservatory for Louisiana high school students. In addition to being passionate about the human-animal bond and the arts, Katrina is committed to building supportive spaces for the LGBTQ+ community. In 2013 she co-founded QueerFit NOLA, a weekly CrossFit class for the New Orleans LGBTQ+ community that encourages well-being through exercise that is accessible to all bodies and genders. In the summer of 2018 she participated in an Arts Collaboration for Social Issues Exhibition in Pune, India and collaborated with the NGO, Samapathik Trust, on an art installation entitled “OUT in the Rain”. In January of 2019 she will be traveling to Ghana to facilitate a PhotoVoice project from a transnational feminist perspective with a focus on gender and other social identities. As the second of six kids and the former captain of the Duke women’s rowing team, Katrina identifies with community building, problem solving and family-style dining. She is a doer and a creative thinker who knows how to take direction and take charge, especially for causes she believes in. *She also had the pleasure of working with David Sedaris who wrote “Katrina, you’re so good at your job” on the title page of his book, “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk”.
